Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr.

 

 

Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. is a native of Tacoma who has maintained his roots on the Hilltop for over 57 years.


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital, attended Stanley Elementary and McIlvaigh Jr. High.  He graduated from Henry Foss High School (1977) and Knapp College of Business (1979), all in Tacoma Washington.


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. has served the Hilltop Community for over 40 years.  As a young man he served at New Covenant Pentecostal Tabernacle (23rd & MLK Jr. Way) as an organist, feeding program facilitator, youth leader and mentor, youth Sunday school and VBS teacher, Transportation Dept., Building and Grounds Maintenance, OJT Carpenter, and Minister.


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. has been married to Joclyen Cheryl Wyatt (Also a Tacoma native) for over 36 years (Nov. 7, 1979).  Together they have raised 2 sons, Gary, II and Solomon, who graduated from Pierce College (Gary, II) and Boise State/Saint Martins College (Solomon).  Gary, II was a standout shooting guard at Lincoln High School.  Solomon won a WIAA Basketball Championship at Henry Foss.  They both are Elders at SureHouse and serve on the praise team as a keyboardist (Gary, II) and Praise Leader (Solomon).


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. teamed with former Seattle Mariner All-Star Second Basemen, and MLB Analyst Harold Reynolds to motivate and inspire middle and high school students through Mariner post-game pep talks at the former Kingdom, Junior and High School assemblies, in classroom visits, and charity banquets.  Inspired by Harold, Rev. Wyatt created and implemented the 5D Focus program, teaching youth the importance of having a “Dream”, and following it with “Desire, Determination, Defense and Dominance.”


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. served as the SeaTac City Coordinator for the Devos Urban Leadership Initiative (DVULI), a national faith-based leadership 15 months development program for urban youth workers.  The core values of DVULI are “Accountability, Balance, Interdependence, Empowerment and Leverage.”


Rev. Gary L Wyatt, Sr. and his church have partnered over the past 21 years with youth organization such as SureHouse Summer Enrichment Program, World Vision (Vision Youth), Young Life (Hilltop), Young Businessmen and Women (YBMW), City of Destiny Poetry Slam (City of Tacoma Preservation Dept.), Project 253, Northwest Leadership Foundation (AmeriCorps), and Youth For Christ’s SOZO.


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. is a well established Gospel Recording Artist who has shared the stage with some of gospel musics greatest artist such as Yolanda Adams, Kurt Carr, The Winans, BeBe and CeCe Winans, The Clark Sisters, Mary Mary, Commissioned and many more.  In addition he has composed over 1200 songs and recorded 24 solo/choir recordings.  He is the founder of Gary L. Wyatt Ministries which produces such products as CD's, DVD's, Books, Holy Acronyms and clothing items.


Rev. Gary L. Wyatt, Sr. is a husband, father, shepherd, musician, singer, composer, author, graphic designer, businessman and mentor.
